End of the Year!

  Wishing everyone a safe, blessed, and relaxing summer break!  Thursday 5/16 is summer blast off day with normal dismissal time. Friday 5/17 is our last day with dismissal at 11:30. Both days are dress down days following the dress down guidelines.

April 29- May 3

Spelling- Week 30 skill and word list. Practice packet is due Thursday and test is Friday. This will be our last spelling word list/ packet of the year. English- We are finishing up our research papers. We will type them and then begin creating our power point presentations to present next week. Presentations are due Monday! Social Studies- We are beginning our final small unit on Australia and New Zealand- the Pacific Realm. This will take us through this week and next with an open book test near the end of next week to finish off our studies. We will review some map skills and practice over the final days of the year as well. *Food Drive is this week! Please see the school newsletter for ideas on what is needed to bring in. *6th Grade Vocations day is on Wednesday, May 1st. *The Crowning of Mary for the month of May will be Friday, May 3rd. Please bring a flower in for this.

Week of April 15-19

Spelling- Week 28 skill focuses on spelling patterns ou, a, e , and u . English- We are finishing up our unit on adverbs and will be starting to talk about and begin our research papers. Social Studies- We are continuing to study the different regions of Asia, its history, and culture.

Week of April 8-12

Spelling- week 27 skill: words with /ar/, /er/, and /ir/. The packet is due Thursday and the test is Friday. English- We are continuing our study of adverbs and will review the difference between adverbs and adjectives, as well as all parts of speech as they have proven to be a little tricky for some when not in isolation. Social Studies- We have finished chapter 24 over the physical features of Asia, but will continue working through the history and cultures of Asia over the next several weeks before taking a big unit test. More info to come on that as we get closer. Reminders:  - Monday is a noon dismissal for the Eclipse. -Tuesday is an early out at 1:30 for faculty meeting and is a dress down day.

Week of March 25th-27th and April 4th-5th

  English- As we have finished our unit on verbs, we will be working on a writing activity this week along with understanding the difference between adjectives and adverbs as we lead into the next unit on Adjectives. Social Studies - We are starting our final unit on Asia including Ancient China, Persia, and India. Spelling- We will start week 26 skill and words this week. The practice packet will be due Thursday, April 4th and then the test will be Friday, April 5th. *Reminder: There is no school for Easter Break from Thursday, March 28th- Wednesday, April 3rd. Week of: March 18-22

 English- We are finishing up our study of verbs and will continue to practice throughout this week. Social Studies- We have finished unit 8 and will have our test on Wednesday, March 20th. The study guide was sent home last Wednesday, the 13th, so hopefully the students are continuing good study habits and studying each night to prepare. Spelling- week 24 skill this week- correct spelling and usage of words with -able and -ible. *Reminder: No School on Friday due to state archery tournament.

Week of March 11-15

 English- We are beginning our study of verbs in unit 4. Social Studies- We will be finishing up our study of the Renaissance and the Middle Ages. The study guide will be passed out on Wednesday, March 13th and the test will be Wednesday, March 20th. Spelling- We are working on week 23 word study, specifically on words with the short /a/ sound.

Week of March 4-7

English- We are continuing our study of adjectives and how to correctly use them in sentences. Social Studies- Unit 8 is all about the middle ages and Renaissance period.   Spelling- Week 22 spelling- The practice packet will be due by Wednesday. The test will be Thursday. *** Reminder: No school on Friday, March 8th! *** Third quarter ends on March 7th! Wow! Already the last week before fourth quarter! Let's finish strong!

Week of 2/26- 3/1

Spelling- Week 21 skill: words with/ou/ sound. Packet is due Thursday and the test is Friday. Social Studies- We are finishing up our 7th unit. The test is Wednesday, February 28th. Then we will begin our 8th unit on the middle ages and renaissance era. Don't forget that our first current events project is also due on Friday, March 1st! English- We finished our argumentative/ persuasive writing piece so now we are moving back into our study and practice of grammar skills with unit 3 in the book over adjectives.

2/19- 1/23

Spelling- Week 20 skill practice and word study. Packet is due Thursday and the test is on Friday. Social Studies- We are finishing up our study of the Byzantine Empire and the test will be next Wednesday the 28th. The study guide is going home on Wednesday the 21st to give the students a week to prepare/ study. English- We are finishing our Persuasive/ Argumentative essays and will begin a new unit on Friday.

Social Studies Current Events Project Guidelines and Due Dates

  CURRENT EVENT DIRECTIONS 2023-2024 Current Events. What is a current event? An event is something that happens or is regarded as happening; an occurrence, especially one of some IMPORTANCE . Current refers to now - for our class something that has happened since August 1, 2023 through the rest of the school year. In general, sports and accidents are not to be used for current event assignments. Current events are an assignment that you should get an A on. These will help bring up poor quiz or test scores. Of course that means you have to do them correctly and on time or they will take your overall grade down. This will also help to prepare you for completing these current event projects more often in 7th and 8th grade. For current events you must read a NEWS article (internet or newspaper is fine) and complete the assignment requirements. Social Studies- We are diving into our next unit on the Byzantine Empire. English- We are continuing to discuss the parts of an argumentative writing piece to prepare to begin writing our own piece beginning on Friday! Spelling- week 18 word study

Week of 1/29-2/2

 Social Studies- Reminder that we will have our test over unit 6 on Thursday, February 1st! The study guide was sent home last Thursday and there is an additional copy on Google Classroom as well. English- Finishing our introduction into Greek and Latin root words which we will continue to practice weekly throughout the rest of the year. We will also begin our next writing piece which will be a persuasive/ argumentative paper. Spelling- Week 17

Social Studies

 The unit 6 test over Ancient Rome will be next Thursday, February 1st. The study guide is coming home today. There is also a digital version available on Google Classroom. Thanks!

Update: Tuesday 1/23/24

 Hello!  With all of the days off and odd schedules, I have not been able to make an update so below you will find some info for this week and next. Social Studies: We are finishing up our unit on the ancient Roman Empire. The study guide will go home on Thursday, January 25th and the test is next Thursday, February 1st. English: We are finishing up our unit on pronouns and we will begin our next writing piece which will be an argumentative (persuasive) writing piece. Spelling: We WILL have spelling this week! We are on week 16. The words can be found under the spelling lists tab here on the blog or on the students' Google Classroom. The packet is due Thursday and the test is Friday. We also have our January praise assembly this coming Friday, the 26th. Each month, a grade level is required to lead a praise assembly and this month is 6th grade's turn to do so! We have been practicing a lot and working on preparing our songs to lead the school in a wonderful afternoon of prayer.

Week of 1/8/24

 English- working on pronouns and understanding/ using the different types (intensive, reflexive, subject, object, etc.) correctly. Social Studies- continuing our study of Ancient Rome  Spelling- week 15: social studies themed words- practicing breaking down syllables
